Product adaptability
Spies Hecker hardener can be adapted to any temperature: The brand offers three types of hardener, applicable in all weather conditions:
- Permasolid VHS Speed Hardener 3252 slow: this is a new hardener that can be applied at a temperature of 25°C. In other words, in ambient to warm temperatures. This hardener is resistant to humidity. The slow hardener is used to clearcoat or prime a large area of the vehicle or to carry out a complete repair.
- Permasolid VHS Hardener 3251 fast: this hardener can be applied at temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C. The fast hardener is used to varnish or prime a small vehicle surface or to make small bodywork parts.
- Permasolid VHS Speed Hardener 3250: can be used at temperatures between 20°C and 30°C.

There are two brands of hardener: Spies Hecker hardeners and Spies Hecker Permafleet hardeners.

How do I apply a paint hardener?
Check the quantity of paint
Small cans of paint don't really need hardener to dry completely. Just leave the tin outside without the lid and you'll notice that it dries out in a few days.
However, for cans containing a large quantity of paint, a hardener should be added to help them dry completely.
If you have several pots of paint and each pot contains a little paint. You can mix them in one pot, then add the paint hardener.

Mix
- Start by covering your work surface with newspaper to prevent any damage.
- Generally speaking, a pack of hardener can harden up to 1 gallon of paint. So pour a sachet of hardener into the can and stir it with a wooden paint stick.
- The paint hardener must be activated by water. Pour 1 cup of water into the mixture and stir.
- Leave the can of paint to stand for around 30 minutes.
- Once your paint has been mixed, and after a 30-minute pause to release air bubbles, it is advisable to use the mixture within 4 hours.
The paint layer
- Thin and thick layers of paint are preferable. For best results, apply several thin coats of paint.
- When working on multi-layers, the top layer should be applied once the bottom layer has dried. Each layer must also be polished.
Safety precautions
- In the event of contact with the eyes, the hardener may cause mild to moderate eye irritation. People with sensitive eyes should wear protective goggles when working with paint hardeners.
- Dust from the main ingredient, sodium polyacrylate, can cause inflammation of the lungs if inhaled. Most people will not be affected by this dust. However, people suffering from asthma or other respiratory problems should take precautions, by wearing a dust mask, when pouring paint hardener into paint cans.
- Protect your skin. When it comes into prolonged contact with paint hardener, you risk suffering from irritation and redness.
