Why apply a clearcoat?
Bodywork repair and coating involves three main phases:
- Preparing the surface to be painted ;
- The paint application phase ;
- The finishing phase.
The final finishing stage involves sanding to give a smooth finish and adding a clearcoat.
The clearcoat reinforces the solidity of the paint applied. It covers the paint, protecting it and extending its life. Generally colourless, clearcoats can be used with a hardener. With a clearcoat, you can also achieve the effect you want, either matt or gloss, depending on your requirements.

Tips for applying UPOL body clearcoat
To apply your UPOL clearcoat successfully and benefit from its many advantages, follow our advice:
- Start by applying your paint;
- Wait until it dries completely;
- Wash the bodywork before applying your clearcoat (this gets rid of any dust);
- Check that the surface is not too hot and do not touch it to avoid leaving marks;
- Hide the parts of the car that should not be painted with clearcoat, such as the wheels;
- Spray your clearcoat after diluting it or mixing it with a hardener;
- Respect the distance between the spray gun and the surface as well as normal humidity conditions;
- Wait for your clearcoat to dry;
- Sand the final finish.
Protection during application
The work of a professional bodybuilder involves handling a number of chemicals. To protect yourself and others, please follow these safety instructions:
- Read the technical data sheet for the product you are using;
- Always wear coveralls or protective equipment (goggles, gloves, mask…);
- Carry out your work in a well-ventilated area;
- Avoid spraying your products outdoors;
- Do not touch your face, especially your eyes, during the operation;
- Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after the operation;
- Clean your tools to keep them in good condition for future use.
