Lesonal thinner
Lesonal thinner is used to obtain different results (light, dark, matt, etc.) and to remove paint from :
- Brushes
- Rollers
- Brush equipment
- Surfaces
When should I use Lesonal thinner?
Paint thinner can be used to clean painting equipment and tools once the job is finished.
It can also be used to 'thinner' or reduce the viscosity of the paint so that it can be used in spray applicators.
Better still, the thinner can be used to prevent the paint from hardening.
How do you thinner car paint?
Step 1: choose an appropriate thinner
You need to buy the right thinner for the type of paint you're using. For example, thinners for latex paints are not suitable for oil paints, and vice versa.
Read all the instructions and information on the label.
Step 2: Use the right amount of thinner
Always check the labels on paint containers for the paint/thinner ratio recommended by the manufacturer. Lesonal paint manufacturers provide recommendations on the amount of thinner to use, but do not exceed a 4:1 ratio of paint to thinner.
It is important to keep the quantity of paint greater than the quantity of paint thinner. If this is not the case, the paint may be too thin and the shade of colour may be lighter than desired on the finished surface. On the other hand, adding too much thinner can cause the paint to fade during application. As a result, there will be problems once the work is finished.
Step 3: Testing the mixture
Apply two coats of the paint/thinner mixture. Make sure that the coat of paint completely covers the surface and that it does not drip.
How to use Lesonal thinners
Tips for mixing paint and thinner successfully
For best results, follow these tips:
- Never use cold paint, as this could affect the application process.
- The thinner must be mixed with paint kept at ambient temperature.
- We recommend using a wooden stick or spoon to stir the paint, at the same time as adding the thinner to the paint.
- Before starting, test the mixture by applying two coats to the surface. Make sure that the paint does not run or is too thick.
- Mix slowly, checking that the thinner is well blended.
- Remove any lumps of paint that cannot be mixed with the thinner.
- For Latex paint, if after adding thinner it is still too thick, try adding a little water.
- Never leave paint thinner open for too long, as it may evaporate.
How do you clean tools with Lesonal thinners?
Brushes used with oil-based paint should be cleaned with a paint thinner formulated to remove it. Check to make sure it's the right choice.
First, rinse the brushes in containers containing thinner.
Then blot them dry and repeat the process 3 times to ensure the paint is completely removed.
Safety measures
For the safety of bodywork professionals, the following recommendations must be followed:
Personal protective equipment
When using Lesonal thinners, personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, at least :
- Gloves
- Protective eyewear
- The respirator
The latter is very important because the thinner releases fumes that could be absorbed and ingested through absorption and breathing. Moreover, the thinner must be stored carefully, preferably in open spaces.
The workplace
Avoid working with thinner in closed or poorly ventilated areas. For indoor spaces, for example, mechanical ventilation can be used.
It is also advisable to have a fire extinguisher nearby, as solvents can be extremely flammable.
Never pour the thinner down the drain or into the ground, as this could contaminate it.
Solvent containers should never be filled to capacity. This is because their vapours need space to expand, and a container that is too full has the potential to burst.
Lesonal thinner is the ideal product for professionals to clean their tools and thin their paints.
